First off, the 10th Erase Racism Carnival is up at Racialicious.

A Whole New World — “Clearly somebody at the mega-corporation knew that white people weren’t the only ones with Orlando timeshares, or they wouldn’t have created the few princesses of color they had. So where the heck was Princess Imani? Black families like Epcot, too. I wanted a princess I could, I mean, my girls could relate to.” [Yes, I'm still on the Princess Maddy kick.]

Hating on Chinese Food and Loving on Asian Foods #1 — ”I’m curious to read the actual report — why are so-called “ethnic” foods being targeted for disapproval by this consumer group? Why is Chinese food being compared alongside Mexican and Italian food while a discussion of good ‘ol American food is not addressed?” [Excerpt from the first link; a pair from reappropriate on an AP article targeting ethnic foods as unhealthy. Which is so wrong. Because all food is awesome, and apparently everything but celery will eventually kill you anyway. *clings to enchiladas and lumpia and dumplings and ravioli*]

A Cool Women’s History Month Game — “In honor of Women’s History Month, celebrated nationwide in March, here’s a quiz to see how much you know about some fascinating and important local women. Find out your WHIQ (Women’s History IQ)!” [This is a good idea. Everyone should do this. *nod* Because I like trivia. I demand it! Okay, don't mind me, I slept too much last night, so I'm kind of loopy.]

Cooking the History Book [Ken Burns' Anti-Latino Agenda] — “… his latest seven-part, fourteen hour film The War, an epic undertaking that took six years to make and that covers the second world war by interviewing forty veterans from four towns—one of them Sacramento, California—and does not include even one Mexican (or Puerto Rican, or Native American, or Latino at all) is a tragedy, when it comes to respecting an accurate history, or the contributions of the descendants of the Indigenous of these Americas.”

Iraq Links
Iraqi police disloyal, says chief — “An Iraqi police chief cannot trust one third of his officers because they are loyal to illegal militias, he has told the BBC.”

‘Children used’ in Iraq bombing — “A US military official has said children have been used in a bomb attack in Iraq, raising fears that insurgents are using a new tactic.”

‘Silent victims’: What will become of Iraq’s children? — “Health officials say the daily hardships — bomb blasts, gunfire, killings of family members and sectarian violence — are taking an increasing toll on Iraq’s children. Hundreds of thousands of children no longer attend school. Others have been forced from their homes to camps, while others have fled the nation with family.”

My Iraq: Kurdish businessman — “Delsoz Sherwani is the CEO of Zagros Group, which started life as a construction company 15 years ago. He is 51 and is based in the Kurdish capital, Irbil.”

My Iraq: Basra Business Owner — “Before the regime fell, very few women were involved in business because there was nowhere offering them any help. Women were also restricted in their wider dealings within the community - they had no role. This is now changing.” [It seems like a lot of these stories are meant to give the war a good light. From what I've read on some Iraqi blogs like Baghdad Burning, women are much more restricted now than they were under Saddam.]

News Links
Belgians to ‘wed against racism’ — “About 700 Belgian couples are expected to symbolically wed in a Flemish town where three couples had refused to let a black official marry them. Deputy Mayor Wouter Van Bellingen was the first black councillor elected in St-Niklaas in northern Belgium.” [What is with the BBC's quote marks in heads? It makes it seem like they're being sarcastic all the time.]

Lesbian kiss falls flatter than a pancake — “‘It was a kiss I would share with my uncle,’ Blair Funk told me. Except it wasn’t her uncle she kissed. It was her honey, Eva Sandoval. Two young women sharing a kiss didn’t seem inappropriate to the other couple in the restaurant booth that night, Jackie Smith and the woman with whom she shares her life, Toni Smith. But someone watching the scene was offended. So later, the manager confronted them in the lobby and told them to get out.”
