Taking a break from self-imposed “I didn’t do my homework and now have to write four papers in less than a week” exile to say hooray for this! Yes, thanks to the strength and solidarity of the Asian American community, “The Dog House” has been taken off of CBS Radio. Jeff Vandergrift (”JV”), Dan Lay (”Elvis”), and the producer of the CBS Radio show “The Dog House” have all been canned by CBS. [Full story]
That’s grassroots organizing at its finest right there.
Oh, and before anyone starts on the free speech baloney, and I know you all will because I watched it happen all over the blogosphere after Imus was fired, yes, they do have the right to use racist speech. And we have the right to say “We’re not going to listen to that.” And the advertisers have the right to pull their ads when they find out we’re not going to listen to that. And CBS has the right to let J.V. and Elvis go somewhere else so that they can find someone people will listen to and advertisers will support. So can it.
Back to CARI homework. Blah.
EDIT: Jenn at reappropriate has more info; apparently, they weren’t exactly fired, their show was just dropped. However, if they have nowhere to host their show, they’ve been essentially shut down anyway, right?
