The “What the Hell is Wrong With People!?” Roundup

1. Alexis Goggins, 7-years-old, took six bullets for after her mother’s enraged ex-boyfriend kidnapped them both and tried to kill her mother. She was trying to protect her mom. [Source 1; Source 2]
2. An Aboriginal Australian girl, 10-years-old, was gang-raped by nine young (presumably white, since their race is not given) men. The judge gave out sentences including probation (without a recorded conviction) to the juvenile offenders and suspended sentences for three adult men, including a previous sex offender. Why? The girl might have agreed to sex, and the men were from “prominent families.” [Source 1; Source 2]

Hi Vox
I too wrote about the rape case. If you don’t mind here is the link.

Writing from a UK perspective, recognise I don’t want to step on cultural toes. But i am surprised at the lack of outrage.

actually about the rape case, i think the men were aboriginal, not white. What i’ve inferred from the news in australia (where, btw, there IS a lot of outrage about this case) the judge tries to avoid giving prison sentences to aboriginals because of a study that showed that aboriginals are more much more likely to commit suicide in prison.
Now, i could be wrong about the race of the men, but the quotes made by Bonni Robertson, an aboriginal activist, and how the above study was quoted in the news story, suggested to me that the rapists were Aboriginal.

Thank you for the correction, PK. I was being Americantric right there, I think; in our media, they tend not to mention the race of white people but everyone else, and I didn’t pick up on the clues. My apologies.
I do know there is a lot of outrage in Australia, though only secondhand. Unsurprisingly, U.S. media is all but ignoring this case.
