Comment Policy

Please, comment! I am happy to see any kind of respectful discussion and constructive criticism in this blog.

A few rules to note, however:
1. If you are a racist or sexist asshole and make the mistake of defiling my blog with your racist or sexist comments, I reserve the right to mock you in your very own shiny happy blog entry. EDIT: This applies only to the people who openly spew hate speech; if you are commenting out of a genuine desire to debate or understand, your comment will be approved and debated, not roundly mocked.

2. If you use the words “Final Solution” to refer to how ANY demographic of people should be “dealt with,” your comment will never see daylight and you will be permanently banned from this blog. I am dead fucking serious. You don’t want people to call you a neo-Nazi? Don’t talk like one.

3. Comments are moderated because: a.) I got a ton of Islamophobic comments the day of the Virginia Tech shooting and never turned the moderation off; and b.) I get about 40 spam comments for erectile disfunction and pornographic Web sites per day, and an average of 5-10 would otherwise get through. I do not hate you. Sending a comment calling me nasty names is much less productive than commenting again, asking if I lost your comment in the spam filter.

4. No comments about the Jena Six case will be approved, good or bad. EDIT: If you want to show support, here are some ways you can do it. Commenting here is not one of them.

More will be added if needed.

So, no one can comment on any of your posts? I was trying to comment on the Jena six trial but I was not able to. I was wondering if the parents had been able to raise the cash to post bail for their sons? And if not, is there an organization attempting to do so? Because being held in jail since December over this is really-diculous. I hope orgs./people like you continue to get the word out about this because this is crazy. I’ve just signed the petition myself and will be working on ways to getting this to all of the people I know!

Thanks! And your blog is great! It seems to have a lot of resources, I’ll have to list this on my own blogroll. I just started my own last week (oneglobe.wordpress.com).
    Thanks again,
    Austin

Austin: Unfortunately, I was getting too many racist comments on the Jena Six entries (#2 above was directly in response to a comment on one of them, and I have gotten many, many worse since) and had to shut down commenting. Comments are currently open but moderated on my other entries, for the moment.

I also do not know of a defense fund, but will ask around. I know that both Dr. Elle and the AfroSpear have a ton of coverage on the case and organizing around it, and I may have missed something there.

Thank you for the add. I’ve gone ahead and added your blog as well. It looks like it’s off to a good start!

Hey Vox. I’m sorry to hear of the racism and spam problems you’ve been having.

Well, I just wanted to pass on something to you again. I’m really not sure who else I can contact in AU, I hope you don’t mind… the story’s at

    http://intercontinentalcry.org/a-national-indigenous-body-has-been-born/

    Thanks, and take care. Ahni

  4. Vox Says:

Hi, Ahni, thanks for the tip. I’m not in AU, but I’ll pass it along just the same. This is really fantastic progress.

Hey V, just wondering if you’d seen this yet: http://www.bridesdecide.com/
It’s by the people in charge of TheKnot.com, and I thought it was going to be some insipid consumer BS, but I’m actually kind of excited by it. They’re using their position as one of the top wedding sites to promote women taking a look at some rather serious issues. So it’s not super deep, but they teased it on the front page of theknot!
    Pretty neat.
(And no, I’m not getting married–just doing some research. Really. *cough*)
